Извор: WUNRN – 11.11.2020
October 26, 2020 - Past research has attributed income-based inequalities in young children’s academic achievement and educational attainment in part to differences in the home environment; that is, to differences in what parents do and the goals that drive their behavior. However, in our studies using data on parenting behavior and parental goals over the past 30 years, we found that income-based differences in parenting have been steadily decreasing.

46. Trafficking entails human rights violations, which disproportionately affect women and girls.
47. Women’s unequal economic and social status, lack of access to decent work and poverty, as a result of structural and systemic discrimination, increase their vulnerability to trafficking. At the same time, trafficking perpetuates and exacerbates women’s economic inequality and poverty.
48. The drivers of trafficking, in particular women’s unequal economic status, poverty and economic inequality, are expected to intensify and deepen as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, placing women and girls at increased risk.

UN Human Rights Council Elections at the General Assembly
Извор: WUNRN – 14.10.2020
Earlier today, October 13, 2020, the UN General Assembly elected 15 new members to the Human Rights Council, the UN’s top human rights body, for the 2021-2023 term. With 16 candidates for 15 seats, only one candidate was not elected - Saudi Arabia. China and Russia, while elected, got the least number of votes of any candidate elected in their respective groups.
The Human Rights Council’s effectiveness relies on its members and their readiness to respond fully to the Council’s mandate set out in GA resolution 60/251. A commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights at home and abroad is essential criteria for membership.

This paper endeavors to make visible the targeting of poor women from religious minorities in contexts where society and/or the state both engage in religious ‘otherisation’. The paper seeks to contribute to addressing the blind spot in both feminist and freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) scholarship on the experiences of the intersection of religious marginality, economic exclusion, and gender inequality. The main arguments of this paper are presented in five key propositions which describe and analyse the ways in which the interface between targeting and vulnerability influence the position of women who belong to religious minorities. The final part of the paper elucidates the interconnections among the multiple threads informing these propositions and what accounts for their prevalence.
