Nearly 10 percent of the world\u2019s population \u2013 more than 800 million people \u2013 were hit by hunger last year, according to the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/thenewhumanitarian.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=31c0c755a8105c17c23d89842&amp;id=da478d2e5f&amp;e=5f8111ce27\"><strong>State of Food Security and Nutrition report<\/strong><\/a>. There has been a backslide during the COVID-19 pandemic \u2013 the proportion of people affected by hunger had been about 8 percent and holding in 2019. The gender gap is also expanding: A greater proportion of women than men went hungry last year.
