Launch of new global estimates on levels of physical activity in adults

5 SEPTEMBER 2018 - New data published in The Lancet Global Health today show that more than one in four adults globally (28% or 1.4 billion people) are physically inactive. However this can be as high as one in three adults inactive in some counties.

The paper, authored by four World Health Organization experts, reports data that update 2008 estimates on levels of activity and, for the first time, reports trend analyses showing that overall, the global level of inactivity in adults remains largely unchanged since 2001.

Моментална  состојба во Р. Македонија

Во 2018 година, заклучно со 23.08.2018 во Република Македонија се регистрирани вкупно 40 случаи на мали сипаници. Најголем број од заболените (25) се од Дебар, 10 лица се жители на територија на ЦЈЗ Скопје, две се од Охрид, по едно е од Куманово, Тетово и Струга.

Возраста на заболените се движи од 5 месеци до 45 години, а повеќе од половината (55%) се на возраст над 30 години, a 25% од заболените се деца на возраст до 4 години.

Најголем број од заболените (24) се регистрирани во  јули, кога е пријавена епидемија на мали сипаници на територијата на ПЕ Дебар. Во август се регистрирани 4 заболени, од нив две лица се поврзани со епидемијата во Дебар,  а другите две се од територијата на ЦЈЗ Скопје кои не се епидемиолошки поврзани.

Close to 7 million people die every year from tobacco-related illnesses according to the World Health Organization (WHO).


United Nations agencies must join forces at the policy level and refuse interference from tobacco companies in their programmes so the destructive impact of tobacco can be effectively addressed and lives can be saved, the head of the UN tobacco control treaty watchdog (WHO FCTC Secretariat) told UN News on Wednesday.

Over 41 000 children and adults in the WHO European Region have been infected with measles in the first 6 months of 2018. The total number for this period far exceeds the 12-month totals reported for every other year this decade.

New York, 24 July 2018 - The United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Ms. Pramila Patten, and the Chair of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee), Ms. Dalia Leinarte, welcome the signing of a Framework of Cooperation between the CEDAW Committee and her Office. “With this framework of cooperation, a first between a Security Council-mandated body and a human rights mechanism, the CEDAW Committee and my Office affirm our common commitment to promote and protect the rights of women and girls affected by conflict-related sexual violence, a human rights violation deeply rooted in gender discrimination.
