Treatment for Drug-Resistant TB in Kenya

Health and human rights groups have mobilized in Kenya to support patients who are unable to access medicines to combat drug-resistant tuberculosis. Fewer than half of the patients with this infectious disease receive the proper treatment they need to get well.

Prisons Are Deadly for People with HIV

New research shows that incarceration is the main cause of treatment failure for HIV-positive drug users. This analysis should be a wake-up call for policymakers who think that steel bars are the best response to ending drug use.

Drug Treatment in Poland

A report by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights draws attention to degrading and ineffective treatment in some residential drug rehabilitation centers in Poland. The report authors call for a full assessment of drug treatment programs in Poland and recommend developing a more diverse array of treatment options for people who are dependent on drugs.
