How Men & Women See the Workplace Differently

Men and women work side by side, tackling the same business problems, sitting through the same meetings and walking the same hallways.
But a new study on working women suggests that the common ground ends there. Men and women experience very different workplaces, ones in which the odds for advancement vary widely and corporate careers come in two flavors: his and hers.

Copenhagen and Paris, 7 December 2016
The health status of people in the WHO European Region is advancing, but not all children have the same chances of healthy growth and millions are being left behind. In 20 out of 28 European Union countries, children are at higher risk of poverty or social exclusion than adults.
For the first time, representatives of the health, social and education sectors from over 40 European countries, including experts from international organizations and civil society, will come together in Paris, France, on 7–8 December 2016 at the WHO high-level conference Working together for better health and well-being. They will take concrete steps to address the social determinants of health and strengthen social protection as a means to give all children the best start in life.

Numerous social, economic, environmental, political, cultural and commercial determinants affect the health, well-being, and social, emotional and cognitive development of young people, both in childhood and in later life.
WHO has developed a compendium of case studies and stories showing how working across the health and social, and the health and education sectors contributes to solving complex health inequalities and improving health and well-being. The compendium offers examples of how to craft and implement intersectoral initiatives and programming, and explores why the examples are effective as well as the challenges they faced. It is intended for use across agencies and sectors, including ministries, government stakeholders and public policy-makers.

New implementation package to support countries’ efforts to transform health services delivery
Извор: Светска здравствена организација - 05.12.2016
In the WHO European Region, millions of people do not have access to the right health care services at the right time and in the right place. Health systems looking to meet this challenge are strained by the growing burden of noncommunicable diseases, the re-emergence of several communicable diseases and the fact that people are living longer and with chronic conditions. In this environment, there is a clear need for health services delivery that is proactive rather than reactive; comprehensive and continuous rather than episodic and disease-specific; and founded on lasting patient–provider relationships rather than incidental, provider-led care.
At the 66th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, countries of the Region took an important step towards transforming health services delivery and strengthening people-centred health systems – one of 4 priorities of the Health 2020 policy framework – by unanimously endorsing the European Framework for Action on Integrated Health Services Delivery (EFFA IHSD).

29 November 2016 – In advance of World AIDS Day, WHO has released new guidelines on HIV self-testing to improve access to and uptake of HIV diagnosis. According to a new WHO progress report lack of an HIV diagnosis is a major obstacle to implementing the Organization’s recommendation that everyone with HIV should be offered antiretroviral therapy (ART). The report reveals that more than 18 million people with HIV are currently taking ART, and a similar number is still unable to access treatment, the majority of which are unaware of their HIV positive status.
In the Fight against AIDS, People Who Inject Drugs Are Being Left Behind
Извор: Фондации Отворено Општество - 01.12.2016
Today, on World AIDS Day, you will repeatedly hear the mantra “leave no one behind,” referring to the concerted effort to end AIDS by 2030 pledged in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. But evidence shows that people who use drugs, a population at particular risk of HIV transmission, are in fact being left further and further behind.
The best way to limit the transmission of HIV—along with hepatitis C—among this population is through harm reduction. This refers to specific health interventions, such as drug consumption rooms, needle and syringe programs, opioid substitution therapy, and overdose reversal treatment.
